Temptation: Victory Over It
Temptation: Victory Over It
Read: 1 Corinthians 10:13There are two types of temptations; one is the worldly temptation and another one is the spiritual temptation. We all as born-again Christians get both temptations. An example of worldly temptation is, a person by name Max has taken a new year resolution to lose his weight with a strict diet. But, just after a few days or weeks, his friend Jake brings him a box doughnuts and chocolates as it was his birthday. Now the choice for Max is whether to follow his diet or break it. In the same way, when we are completely involved in God's, word we are also tempted by the devil.
I would like to state another example of Spiritual temptation. A girl named Christina who is 20 years old and is completely involved in serving the poor and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She never misses or arrives late to Church. But one day her roommate Alex invites her to her birthday party on a yacht on a Sunday at 8:00 in the morning. However, Christina attends church every Sunday for the service at 8:00 in the morning. Now, the choice before Christina is to whether to attend church service or her friend's birthday party.
In the times of our temptations, God provides us wisdom to decide on the choices we make between good and bad. Similarly, God gave Eve to choose whether to eat or not to eat the fruit. The bible says that Eve chooses to eat the fruit resulting in disobedience to God.
And now a question arises "How do we overcome these temptations?". The answers to this critical question are as under;
By reading God's Word:- (Matthew 4:1-11) In these verses, Jesus was tempted by the devil 3 times. And all the 3 times, Jesus overcame the temptation wisely with the reference of the word of God. We all know that the Bible is our guide to live a good life in Christ. It has answers to all our questions.
By Praying:- Whenever people fast, they are tempted by food or the things they are sacrificing. So, we need to pray in the times of temptations and not to worry about anything else. Temptations do not come from God but from the devil and devil has no authority on you or your life. Hence, prayers keep the devil away from us.
The outcome of temptation depends on our response to obey or disobey. The temptation is not itself a sin but we cause a sin when we disobey God. As a born again, we may face temptation several times but we must never lose our faith in God and remember one thing what all you lose on this earth it will be gained doubled in the kingdom of heaven.
So, I conclude that God is in control and will never allow anything evil to happen to us. AMEN
