Last Saying Of Christ: 5th Saying

Last Saying Of Christ: 5th Saying

Read: John 19:28

Jesus's 5th word on the cross was (John 19:28After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

If we read a few verses before our main verse, the thirst might mean that Jesus was meaning the physical expression of thirst because he was on the cross from morning till afternoon at 3:00.

God is able to give everything that we ask because he is our provider and is able to quench our thirst. As God had provided water to the Israelites from the stone. God who is our provider and is able to provide us with whatever we want and his son was on the cross suffering for our sins. Hebrews 4:15 says that he was tested not for his sins but because of our sins.

There are 3 types of thirsts:-

1. Physical thirst:- We all feel sleepy, hungry, tired, etc which even Jesus faced but in his whole life he did not face anger, greediness, selfishness and all the negative attitudes. He even faced temptations like we do but he faced all these temptations with calmness and gods word. Likewise, we cannot completely stop out negative attitudes but we can try our level best to make them less.

2. Worldy thirst:- Jesus even feel the worldly thirst either. Worldy thirst means the thirst to have worldly thirst like fame, money, etc. If we see in the temptation of Jesus in the third temptation Satan showed all the kingdoms of the earth and said that he will give them all to Jesus if he bows down to him. But Jesus didn't show any greediness to the kingdoms of the earth. Likewise even we must not thirst for worldly things/pleasure but we have to seek for the kingdom of heaven.

3. Spiritual thirst:- This is the type of thirst which Jesus faced on the cross. He was not thirsty for water but he was thirsty for our love and devotion and faith to him. Likewise, we must have a spiritual thirst for the kingdom of God and for his word and gospel. If we do so he gives us the living water which will give us eternal life.
So, in these last few days let us remember that Jesus died for us on the cross and as he loved and forgave us he is actually thirsty for our love and faith back. So, let us remember that Jesus died for painfully and give him our complete faith and time to him not only in the lent time but for the rest of our lives. AMEN
