The 10 Commandments Series: Idolatry

The 10 Commandments Series: Idolatry

 Read: Exodus 20:4-6

This commandment doesn't only mean making idols of mud, clay, gold, silver and etc., but it means not to make anything more important than God. According to the dictionary, idolatry means "too much love or admiration to someone or something." We do a lot of things in our day to day life. But, have we ever questioned ourself, how many activities or the stuff have we idolized?

The times are changing, and a numerous number of fascinating gadgets/stuff are being invented on a daily basis. And we may be so into them we unknowingly keep them as our top priority. Doesn't necessarily have to be a thing, it could be a person or an activity. It is not ones fault, it is human nature to do so.

We should not consider these things more important than God because once we make them more important than God then we will start spending the time with them rather than God. If we give more time to them then it will be like we are worshipping, which then leads to idolizing which is against the law.

You may have noticed, as you grow closer to God, the more satan will put these things in our life to tempt us, but we have to just ignore these temptations and just move on.

It is difficult to ignore these things, but remember one thing that these things like phone, car, etc. are given to us by God alone and you should not use it over him or consider it more important than God. Matthew 18:18 says, Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

So, let us not idolize the creation over the Creator, but instead, use the creation for the Creator. Amen & God Bless.
