The 10 Commandments Series: Your Neighbors

Image
The 10 Commandments Series: Your Neighbors Read: Exodus 20:16-17    Today we are going to read about our last two commandments. Which are about “ How we should live with the people in this world ”  The first one is " Do not bear false witness against your neighbour " . This commandment usually can be seen in legal courts. If we are in a court and we are the witness and we are supposed to say the truth what had really happened, but usually people will say the truth but some people do not say the truth but instead they lie. The reason may be bribing, blackmailing etc., but in daily life, no one is bribing or blackmailing us, but then why do we lie?? Might be because of one’s weakness or benefit. Sometimes due to personal weakness is ok, but if we lie for worldly benefits it’s a sin. The reason is with an example, there are two brothers one is Sam (6 years) and the other one is Peter (4 years). Their mother keeps a bowl of cookie ...

The 10 Commandments Series: Relationships

Image
The 10 Commandments Series: Relationships Read: Exodus 20:12-15    Even though we don't know the 10 commandments, commandments which are thought to us by our parents or elders when we are small. The first one is 'Honor your mother and your father' which must be kept even if not thought to us. Ephesians 6:1 says that honouring your mother and your father is the first commandment with promise. Once children get older they do not care about their parents and leave their old parents in old-age homes, but in Proverbs 23:22 it clearly says that we should not despise our parents. Killing is not only against the law of the world but also against the law of heaven. The authority of our death is only in the hands of God. Above all, if anybody (A religious person) who kills someone who is innocent (Who does not know Christ) is a Sinner. As discussed before. It is in the commandment because God cares about both of them the killer and the one being killed. To prove it re...

The 10 Commandments Series: Sabbath Day

Image
The 10 Commandments Series: Sabbath Day Read:  Exodus 20:8    This commandment takes us back to Genesis where God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. Accordingly, our Sabbath day is Sunday.  The Sabbath day is a holy day  for Christians as we rest with God. Though God rests He is on work 24x7. We go to church and hear the sermon and some go to Bible studies . It should not be like on Sabbath day we go to church and be very holy and on Monday onwards we don't even touch the Bible. We must keep ourselves each and every minute holy.  Some people (including Christians) do not go to church because they are tired and want to take rest. I would say to them don't be lazy Christians. If you go to the church even with so much tiredness, you will get double blessings for our God. Hence, let's encourage each other to be active Christians. AMEN

The 10 Commandments Series: Blasphemy

Image
The 10 Commandments Series: Blasphemy Read:  Exodus 20:7    Unforgivable sin, are there any? The answer is yes. Some people say that "Some sins are not counted." But for God, sin is a sin even if you steal a pen from your office or if you murder someone, hypothetically. But there are very few sins that are worse than any other sin and cannot be forgiven. One of them is using God's name in vain or Blasphemy. Blasphemy is the only one of the 10 commandments which states that God will not forgive a person who violates this commandment, i.e., Thou shall not use the name of the Lord your God in vain. Jesus particularly mentioned it in  Matthew 12:31-32 ,  "And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but the blasphemy against the Spirit cannot be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." According to...

The 10 Commandments Series: Idolatry

Image
The 10 Commandments Series: Idolatry   Read:  Exodus 20:4-6 This commandment doesn't only mean making idols of mud, clay, gold, silver and etc., but it means not to make anything more important than God. According to the dictionary, idolatry means "too much love or admiration to someone or something." We do a lot of things in our day to day life. But, have we ever questioned ourself, how many activities or the stuff have we idolized? The times are changing, and a numerous number of fascinating gadgets/stuff are being invented on a daily basis. And we may be so into them we unknowingly keep them as our top priority. Doesn't necessarily have to be a thing, it could be a person or an activity. It is not ones fault, it is human nature to do so. We should not consider these things more important than God because once we make them more important than God then we will start spending the time with them rather than God. If we give more time to them then it will be like ...

The 10 Commandments Series: Thy Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me

Image
The 10 Commandments Series: Thy Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me Read:  Exodus 20:2-3      The above commandment is the first and an important commandment. If you do not follow this commandment then obeying the rest of the commandments is of no use. God made this commandment because he is a Jealous God and he wants us to worship him alone. If we see in the story of Daniel. God was jealous that all the people are worshipping the king not him. It was God's plan to put Daniel in the lion's den and when he comes out the people will know that Yahweh had saved him from the hungry lions. Then the king had announced that no one will worship him (the king) but they must worship Daniel's God (Yahweh). All other gods whom non-believers believe are created by we humans and they are powerless. God proves this thing in Exodus 7 till 11 which is of the ten plagues and each of these plagues was to challenge the different gods of Egypt like Ra, Seth, Amun, etc. and these fake...

The 10 Commandments Series: Introduction

Image
The 10 Commandments Series: Introduction Read :  Exodus 31:18 ; 32:19 ; 34.       From today we are going to start the 10 commandments series. These commandments were given to Israelites by God through Moses. Moses  is the most important prophet in Judaism. The 10 commandments were the first ten laws given by God to Israelites. In the books from Exodus till Deuteronomy, totally there are around 600+ laws in the Torah (First five books). But every time God gave them these laws, the Israelites disobeyed even more. Before Jesus came into this world, many prophets had warned people to repent; some repented and some didn't. But Our God in heaven is merciful and loves all, so He sent his only son to die for us who are sinners. After the Israelites had crossed the red sea, the Israelites had settled down at the foot of Mount Sinai, Moses had gone up and saw the Hand Of God and the two stone tablets.   When God was writing the 10 commandments, do...
