Salt And Light

Salt and Light

Read: Matthew 5:13-16

Why does Jesus tell us to be like salt and light to the world? And what does he mean? Salt is the purest mineral which is obtained from two pure substances the sun and the ocean, which means we should be pure like salt. Light is the very first thing that God had created and the holy spirit came in the form of fire on the apostles, which gives light to all.

How can we be the salt of the world? Salt is often used as a preservative, a cleanser and a disinfectant. It is a very valuable thing to have, but once it loses its flavour is not even worth than dirt itself. Our faith needs to produce good works like salt without good work our faith is useless, same as faith without works is dead. James 2:17 “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead”. How do we preserve it? The answer is simple we should keep the laws which God has given to us and even we have to give the salt which we have and share it with others. An impure salt is worthless and useful for throwing in the streets, but a pure salt is salty and useful for its purpose and has the ability to create an impact in the world.

Read Proverbs 6:23 “For the commandment is a lamp; the law is light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life” and Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”. God’s word is a commandment to us and we have to live with it. We have to be seen doing good things not to boast but to give God all the glory. Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity”. Even though we have prophesied, done miracles and cast out demons in Jesus name, he will say 'I never knew you: depart from me' because those people have practised lawlessness. True faith leads to action, read and obey God’s word in order to be like salt and light to the world.

So, spread your saltiness and light to the world and never lose your saltiness and light. AMEN.
