The Days Of Lent

The Days Of Lent

So, according to you what does lent mean? I guess most of you might have thought of 'Fasting'. Not only fasting there are three different disciplines of lent are:-

So if we put it in the form of an equation it is like- LENT = FAST + PRAY + GIVE. This year lent begins form 6th of March till 20th of April which is one day before Easter. Now let us study these disciplines in detail:-

FASTING:- Fasting is essentially giving up food (or something else) for a period of time in order to focus your thoughts on God. While fasting, many people read the Bible, pray, or worship. Fasting is found throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, over fifty times! Fasting makes us realise how much dependent we are upon God for each and everything. Fasting is done for many reasons like thanksgiving, repentance, praising, sacrificing, etc but we have to remember one thing that fasting is not a deal or condition that you are making with God that "God I will fast and you must give me something". But we have to remember one thing that whatever God does he does it in his own time. (for a detailed study about fasting click this)

PRAYING:- Prayer is an important aspect of Lent. To dedicate more time to speak to God, listening to Him, to meditate on His word. Like faith without action is no use in the same way fasting without prayer is nothing.

GIVING:- is the third aspect of Lent. Fasting can free up resources we can have been consuming to allow us to be more generous. Praying should lead us to sense God's concerns more than our own desires, and giving is our way of joining in with God's concerns and work in the world. our giving can be financial, in regard to our gifts, our time, our energy, etc.

To have a blessed and holy lent time we must follow all of these three disciplines. If you follow 2 and not the other one it might pass incomplete. There is not only one option to fast there are more than one here are some fasting on food, fast on spending less money, fast with technology, fast with water, etc. We cannot equal our sacrifice with what Jesus had done on the cross. These are just some small ways we can pay our tribute or give thanks to the lord. AMEN
